Types of Pet carrier

In Singapore, most owners treat their pet as one of the family member. It is common to call one’s pet as fur-kid in Singapore. Especially for dogs, owners are bringing their fur-kids anywhere if they could. With more carriers in the market and made available, pet owner is again to bring their fur-kids, in their carrier, with them on public transport, shopping malls and even some restaurants without inviting much attraction. The carriers are design like ordinary bags, which most will not recognise that it is a pet carrier.

And very often, owner has more than one carrier. If you have a dog, cat or even a rabbit, you are going to need at least one pet carrier. You will need them for your road trip, to the veterinarian, or attending some pet events organised frequently throughout the year.
In Singapore, we are fortunate to be able to get a large variety of pet carriers. Pet owners are spoiled with choices. Here’s the different category pet carrier and their advantages to helps you better in choosing the carrier.

Pet carrier bag
This is a great way to bring your dog around and best option for that annual trip to the veterinarian. As you can easily store them away when not in use and they are generally cheaper to have than the other carrier. If your dog is small and light for your to carry around your shoulders. There are also 3 types of carrier bag under this category. Carry by the sides like a hand bag, sling it around like a messenger’s bag or on your back as the backpack. You can wiggle around in shopping malls easily with it. The carrier come in variety design, colors and sizes, make sure your measure the length of your rabbit, chinchilla, cat or dog, before you shop for one. Making sure that they can lay flat on the base of the carrier for maximum comfort. It would be best to select one with lightweight but with strong backing/casing to provide protection for anyone knocking against the carrier during the journey. And of course, this is not suitable for medium to large size pets, as they will be too heavy to carry around.

Pet carrier crate
Usually used for transporting pet on flight or road trip. However, a number of pet owner prefer crate for road trip than carrier bag, as crate are much solid and thus give better protection, in case of any sudden brake or accident on the road, yet providing more space for the Pet. Most vet would prefer you have one of this carrier when you pet need a surgery. This is to prevent the wound surface from touching and provide hard base for those with spinal injury.

This is also a great way if you have a hyper-active dog, this would restrict their movement and you can concentrate more on the road. It is also best for pets that have injury, it assist support for the body & avoid the wound from touch. When not in used for road trip, you can have it at home as the pet’s bed.

Pet Stroller
Now, whoever thought of this is really genius. With this stroller, we are really treating our pets like babies. Pets are put in strollers for numerous reasons. For one, the pet are too heavy to be carried in carrier bags and yet we love our fur-kids too much to leave them at home. Yes, we can have them walk along with us. But in Singapore, dogs are not allowed in most places, with the stroller, things have changed. We are able to go to dinning places with fur-kids secure in their enclosed stroller, without creating trouble. I’ve seen 3 Chihuahua comfortably in one stroller with shopping bags hooking on the stroller going though the shopping mall. Thinking to myself, the pet owner, must have saved on pet sitting services and spending more to pamper themselves. Some strollers are also make detachable, which you can use as a carrier bag or a transport basket for bicycle.
